The Ring of Gullion is fabulous to visit
A circle of rocky hills surrounds Slieve Gullian Mountains in Northern Ireland and is known as 'the Ring of Gullion'. It is situated right beside the Mourne Mountains, in County Armagh.
Rich in wildlife, this rural area attracts visitors who come to walk, go wildlife spotting, mountain biking, canoeing on the Newry River that flows into Carlingford Lough.
Two equestrian centres provide the means to explore on horseback. There is a riding centre at Forkhill and another at Mullaghbane.
Tourism has grown in the area as more and more people come to discover the geology and historic development of the area. Myths and legends abound, as one would expect in Ireland. Children might just be impressed with the ‘Giant’s Lair’ at Slieve Gullian.

There are several megalithic tombs, and lots of fascinating history and mythological tales to be discovered. Visit Moyry Castle, built in 1601, to get an intriguing insight into Irish history, and maybe a new appreciation of your usual surroundings!
Have a picnic in the gorgeous surroundings of Carlingford Lough, or wear the kids out at Slieve Gullion Forest Park – there are play facilities and regular events that will appeal to children of all ages.
