Lots of people consider cycling as part of a holiday in the country. Some arrive with bicycles attached to the backs of their cars, others hire them locally. People who enjoy a bit of cycling on holiday tend to go to holiday destinations where it is safe on the roads or there are traffic free cycle paths.
The cyclists above are in the New Forest village of Burley where there is a traffic-free cycle path and plenty of bicycle hire. All roads and trails within the New Forest National Park are suitable for cycling, drivers tend to drive carefully in case a wild pony suddenly crosses their path.
Traffic free cycling holidays on the Welsh Coast
An excellent place for a cycling holiday in Wales is on the coast at Barmouth. An 18-mile long traffic free road leads all the way from the seaside town of Barmouth to Dolgellau, or vice versa. There is attractive scenery all along the route of rivers, pastures, farms and rural cottages.
At one point, the route passes a former signal box that has now become a mini museum and information centre.
Any holidaymakers would be able to find a vast number of holiday homes to rent, both in the countryside and in the towns. This part of Snowdonia is highly recommended as an area for self-catering holidays with walks, cycling and fishing. The accommodation varies considerably; stay in pine lodges surrounded by woodland, in town houses, farmhouses and seaside cottages.
