The thought of taking a holiday in a windmill could be an exciting prospect. To begin with, each room could take on the circular shape of the windmill and most of us have never stayed in a circular room before. Windmills have height so that the views from the top floor will be amazing.

Most of us are attracted by a new experience and children might be very excited about the prospect of having a holiday in a windmill. It would certainly lead to many conversations about their original purpose. Their rural setting will also be an appreciated bonus as long as the land has remained rural. If buildings have encroached on the countryside, it will hopefully be in the form of a charming village with a pub and shops where holidaymakers can stock up on supplies.
The room arrangements in a windmill holiday home could also be interesting. The diameter of the building narrows as the building rises so that the rooms gradually become smaller. It is likely that the bedrooms will be on the upper levels although ideally, it would have been good to have a living room at the very top to make the most of the panoramic views. Occasionally, accommodation is added to a former windmill so that the shape will be rectangular, but there should be some circular rooms.
Another point to bear in mind when renting a windmill as holiday accommodation is that the many levels mean stairs to climb. Children probably won’t mind this at the beginning of their holiday but may not be quite as appreciative if they forget items and have to run up the stairs again.
